As part of a sub-series modernisation, the Yverdon workshop converted locomotive De 4/4 1669 in 1965–1966, intended as a prototype. Assigned to the Lausanne depot and scheduled for a major overhaul, the converted locomotive received several innovations, including a driver’s cab for seated operation, updated pneumatic systems, a compressed air master switch, a new hopper battery, and an enclosed driver’s cab. The only classic feature retained was its dark green livery with a light grey undercarriage, blending historical charm with modernised functionality for Swiss rail operations.
