DR Bdmse 2nd Class Express Luggage Coach IV

The name of the carriages is derived from their production facility, the Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk (Raw) Halberstadt. In the 1980s, production began on a side-aisle compartment express train carriage without air conditioning that was based on the UIC-Z specifications.

The new carriages were painted in the DR's green and beige livery, which became mandatory for all express train carriages from the mid-1980s. In addition to being used in express train service within the German Democratic Republic, the carriages were often found in transit and international trains.
