DBAG Bpmbdzf296.3 2nd Class Driving Coach VI (DCC-Fitted)

The DB began developing control cars for long-distance traffic in the early 1990s. The first 75 control cars were created by converting passenger cars from Halberstadt production.

After delivery of the first two series, PFA Weiden began manufacturing twelve pressure-resistant IC control cars. To distinguish them from the "conventional" version, these cars were called Bpmbdzf 297.3. After the first redesign in 2002/2003, the type number was changed from 297.3 to 296.3. The vehicles were fitted with a passenger information system and digital destination displays on the outside.
