Details
The E 41 series locomotives, renumbered 141 from 1968, were first delivered to the German Federal Railway in 1956 for light and mixed traffic on main lines. With a top speed of 120 km/h and a continuous output of 2,310 kW, they were notable for being the only series in the standard programme to feature a low-voltage transformer switchgear. The distinctive noise of this switchgear, combined with the locomotiveās large jumps in tractive effort, earned it the nickname "Knallfrosch" (Firecracker). Locomotive 141 152 was repainted shortly after the introduction of the oriental red colour scheme in November 1987 and retained this livery until its retirement at the end of 2002, making it a memorable example for enthusiasts and collectors.
