Details
The N-cars of the Deutsche Bundesbahn, affectionately known as āSilberlingeā or silver cars, were a cornerstone of German regional rail transport for decades. With over 5,000 units built, these versatile coaches dominated local services from the 1960s until they were gradually replaced by multiple units and double-decker cars in the 1990s.
Models from the 1970s to 1990s feature distinctive ocean blue longitudinal beams, large class numbers, and clear pictograms. Between 1978 and 1982, a major modernization converted 200 control cars with small āHasenkastenā driverās cabs to the upgraded āKarlsruhe headā design, enhancing both appearance and functionality.
Originally based in Freiburg im Breisgau, the Silberlinge operated on key routes including the Rhine Valley Railway between Basel and Karlsruhe, the scenic Hƶllental Railway, and diesel-hauled services to Breisach and Elzach. This model captures the historic charm and characteristic detailing of the iconic Deutsche Bundesbahn N-cars, making it perfect for authentic German regional train layouts.
