DR BR86 1563-5 Steam Locomotive IV (~AC-Sound) 1:87 scale model produced by Roco. This model is ready-to-run straight out of the box and would make a excellent addition to any model railway collection. Features: AC Sound Model Best suited to Epoch IV Model Railways This model mainly operates in Germany Decorated in DR company markings Best suited to 358mm radius curves First time as a model with the distinctive large wind deflectors for traffic on Usedom Long, cut-out water tanks Fine metal wheelsets Details The DRG Class 86 was a widely used German steam goods train tank locomotive built for the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft. Its 2-8-2T wheel arrangement made it ideal for freight and mixed train work on branch lines and secondary routes. A total of around 775 locomotives were constructed between 1928 and 1943 by nearly every major German locomotive builder of the era. Its design also appeared in a simplified wartime version from 1942. Class 86s predominantly worked in the Mittelgebirge and regional networks, handling freight, light passenger and mixed trains with a top speed of approximately 70–80 km/h. After WWII, 385 engines went to Deutsche Bundesbahn, 175 to the East German Deutsche Reichsbahn, and others to Austria’s ÖBB, Poland’s PKP (as Class TKt3), Czechoslovakia and the Soviet railways. The class remained in service well into the 1970s, with the last DB withdrawals in 1974 and some DR examples running into the 1980s. A number of Class 86 locomotives survive in preservation and are popular subjects for model railway enthusiasts recreating regional steam operations in Germany and Central Europe.
