Details
The robust S499.02 locomotives were developed in the mid-1970s as an evolution of the S499.0 class. Their distinctive design features a wide fan belt on the sides for transformer cooling, replacing the large windows, while the overall body closely resembles the E 469.3 direct current locomotives. Between 1975 and 1981, 86 units were introduced by CSD, serving both freight and passenger trains. In the 1980s, some locomotives were upgraded with modern single-arm pantographs and were redesignated as class 242 in 1988.
