Features: DCC Sound Model Best suited to Epoch V Model Railways This model mainly operates in Poland This model is decorated in PKP company markings This model is best suited to 358mm radius curves Details The PKP Class SU45 is a classic Polish diesel locomotive built for Polskie Koleje Panstwowe (PKP) between 1970 and 1976 by the Cegielski works in Poznan. A total of 265 locomotives were produced in the type series originally derived from the SP45, but modified with electric train heating to become the universal SU45 suitable for both passenger and freight duties. Featuring a Co'Co' wheel arrangement, the SU45 is powered by a V12 turbocharged diesel engine producing around 1 750 hp and driving an electric transmission. With a top speed of 120 km/h, it was capable of hauling heavy trains on Poland’s non-electrified main lines, and its flexible performance made it a backbone of diesel traction in the late 20th century. The SU45 earned a reputation for rugged reliability and versatility across passenger expresses, regional services and freight work. As diesel multiple units and newer locomotives arrived, many SU45s were withdrawn or rebuilt to other classes, leaving only a handful in operation today. A few locomotives continue in use for freight duties, depot transfers, and tourist trains, while others have been preserved by heritage groups.
