Piko 50766 Expert PKP TKt48 Steam Locomotive III HO Gauge

Expert PKP TKt48 Steam Locomotive III 1:87 scale model produced by Piko. This model is ready-to-run straight out of the box and would make a excellent addition to any model railway collection. Features: Analogue DC Model Best suited to Epoch III Model Railways This model mainly operates in Poland This model is decorated in PKP company markings This model is best suited to 422mm radius curves Details The PKP Class TKt48 is one of Poland’s most beloved steam locomotives, built after World War II to serve on light branch-line passenger services and local freights. Introduced in 1949, the design was based on pre-war templates but adapted for post-war needs with improvements in reliability and maintenance simplicity. A total of 200 locomotives were produced by Fablok in Chrzanów, making the TKt48 a familiar sight across Poland’s non-electrified secondary routes for decades. The TKt48 features a 2-C-2 (4-6-4T) wheel arrangement, giving it excellent stability in both directions — a useful trait for tight curves and frequent changes of direction on branch lines. Its robust boiler and reliable steam-operated valve gear provided solid performance hauling light passenger trains, mixed consists and local goods runs with ease. The tank locomotive layout, carrying water and coal onboard, eliminated the need for a tender and helped keep the engine compact and flexible for shorter runs. Throughout its long service life, the TKt48 was widely deployed on rural and secondary routes, becoming a stalwart of Polish steam traction well into the 1970s as dieselisation and electrification expanded. Many locomotives found second careers on industrial railways and tourist services after withdrawal from mainline service.
