Piko 50711 Expert DR BR62 Steam Locomotive IV (DCC-Sound) HO Gauge

Expert DR BR62 Steam Locomotive IV (DCC-Sound) 1:87 scale model produced by Piko. This model is ready-to-run straight out of the box and would make a excellent addition to any model railway collection. Features: DCC Sound Model Best suited to Epoch IV Model Railways This model mainly operates in Germany This model is decorated in DR company markings This model is best suited to 422mm radius curves Details The DRG Class 62 was a powerful express passenger steam locomotive developed in the early 1930s for the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft. Created to handle heavier trains on main and secondary routes where electric or high-speed diesel traction was not available, the Class 62 combined strong steaming ability with smooth performance for sustained speeds. Featuring a 2-C-1 (4-6-2) wheel arrangement, the Class 62 had two leading wheels, three coupled driving axles and a single trailing axle supporting a large firebox. This layout gave both high speed potential and excellent stability at speed, while the generous boiler and firebox provided the sustained steam pressure needed for express services. Although only 15 locomotives were built due to the economic conditions of the period, the Class 62 proved itself capable across a variety of passenger duties. These locomotives were typically allocated to express and fast passenger trains on routes without electrification, offering a performance step up from earlier mixed-traffic designs. The combination of power, reliability and classic Pacific-type aesthetics made the Class 62 a respected member of the Reichsbahn’s steam fleet. After the Second World War, surviving locomotives continued in service with both Deutsche Bundesbahn and Deutsche Reichsbahn (East Germany), handling regional and express trains into the early post-war decades before retiring as electrification and modern traction took over.
