Details
The DB Class 152 is a high-performance electric freight locomotive developed to replace the older Class 150, providing greater power and reliability for heavy goods traffic. Construction began in December 1996, when Krauss-Maffei, acting as general contractor, delivered the first of 170 locomotives to Deutsche Bahn AG, with Siemens Verkehrstechnik supplying the electrical systems.
Designed specifically for heavy freight operation, the Class 152 delivers a continuous power output of 6,400 kW, making it one of the most capable freight locomotives in Germany. Its robust design allows it to operate at a maximum permitted speed of 140 km/h, combining high tractive effort with operational flexibility for long-distance and regional freight duties.
The Class 152 has become a workhorse of modern German freight operations, hauling everything from bulk commodities to intermodal trains across electrified main lines.
