It combines the efficiency and low emissions of electric traction with the flexibility of diesel power, allowing uninterrupted journeys across sections of track where electrification is incomplete. This dual-mode capability eliminates the need to change locomotives when passing from electrified to non-electrified territory, saving time and simplifying operations. Built on the proven Vectron platform, the Dual Mode locomotive retains a Bo'Bo' wheel arrangement and standard gauge design, with a traction power rating of around 2,000 kW available in both electric and diesel modes.
