• The Porsche 908, in its lightweight 908/3 configuration, had long been Porsche‚Äôs go-to car for twisty and demanding circuits. By 1973, one privately run 908/3 (entered by Joest Racing) made history at Kyalami. On 3 November 1973, driven by Reinhold Joest and Herbert M√ºller, the car clinched victory, completing 360 laps and covering 1,477km at an average speed of 164km/h, the final major endurance win for a 908 on that classic South African track. The win underscored the 908/3‚Äôs nimble handling, endurance reliability, and Porsche‚Äôs mastery of lightweight prototype design.
