This authentic set represents the D 11 express train of the German State Railroad of the GDR (Deutsche Reichsbahn), as it appeared in the early 1950s during Era IIIa. The consist features a selection of standard design express train cars from 1928–1930, as well as the earlier 1923 “Hecht” (“Pike”) type coach, all finished in the characteristic bottle green livery of the period.
Prototype CompositionThe train includes a type Pw4ü-29 express baggage car, a type C4ü-28 third-class coach (consist no. 1), a type C4ü-23 “Hecht” third-class coach (consist no. 2), and a type ABC4ü-29 composite coach offering 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class accommodation (consist no. 4). These cars formed the core of the D 11 express service, which ran the prestigious Dresden–Warnemünde route and included a through coach operating between Prague and Copenhagen.
Historic SignificanceDuring the early years of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in East Germany, these express coaches represented the height of post-war comfort and practicality. Their elegant design and robust engineering made them a familiar sight on key long-distance routes. This set faithfully recreates the D 11’s distinctive formation, capturing the atmosphere and style of mid-20th-century German express travel.
