Features: Best suited to Epoch VI Model Railways Decorated in DBAG company markings Best suited to 356mm radius curves Flywheel Fitted Close Coupler Details The ICE 1 is the first production high speed trainset of the Intercity Express family operated by Deutsche Bahn (DB) and marks the beginning of the high speed era on German rails. Built between 1989 and 1993 by a consortium of German manufacturers including AEG, ABB, Henschel, Krauss, Krupp and Siemens, a total of 60 trainsets were delivered. Each ICE 1 set consists of two power cars (Class 401) and up to 14 intermediate passenger cars, giving a train length of about 360 meters and seating for roughly 740 passengers. The train entered revenue service in 1991 with a design speed of 250 km/h and was later cleared for 280 km/h on suitable high speed lines. The ICE 1 quickly became an icon of German rail travel, handling major routes across the country and setting new standards for comfort, reliability and high speed performance. One set was lost in the 1998 Eschede disaster, and the remaining fleet underwent modernisation between 2005 and 2008 and again from 2019 onwards to update interiors, systems and passenger features and extend their service life toward 2030.
