SNCF X 94630 Cannes-Ranguin 2 Car DMU IV 1:87 scale model produced by Jouef. This model is ready-to-run straight out of the box and would make a excellent addition to any model railway collection. Features: Best suited to Epoch IV Model Railways Decorated in SNCF company markings Best suited to 356mm radius curves Flywheel Fitted Close Coupler Details The SNCF Class X 4500 was a class of two-car diesel multiple units built for the Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français (SNCF) by Ateliers de Construction du Nord de la France (ANF) between 1963 and 1970. A total of 126 units were produced to provide reliable regional passenger service on secondary and unelectrified lines across France. They are part of the well-known “Caravelle” family of railcars, so named because the sound of their engines reminded railwaymen of the French SE210 Caravelle jet airliner. The X 4500 units are nearly identical to the earlier Class X 4300, differing mainly in their Saurer SDHR diesel engines. They normally operated with an unpowered trailer (classes XR8300 or XR8500) for extra seating when demand required it, and could work in multiple formations of up to three units. Their mechanical transmission and sturdy design made them well suited to regional services with frequent stops and starts. These railcars served widely on regional routes throughout France for decades, often in classic red and cream SNCF livery, before being withdrawn by 2010. Some were sold for further use in Romania with operators such as Regiotrans and Via Terra, while several have been preserved on tourist railways in France, making them ideal prototypes for layouts depicting mid-20th-century to late-era regional services.
