Features: Analogue DC Model Best suited to Epoch IV Model Railways Decorated in SNCF company markings Best suited to 356mm radius curves Flywheel Fitted Close Coupler Details The SNCF Class BB 66000 is a class of diesel-electric locomotives built for the SociĂ©tĂ© Nationale des Chemins de fer Français (SNCF) between 1960 and 1968. A total of 318 locomotives were constructed by a consortium including CAFL, CEM, Alsthom, Fives-Lille and SACM. They feature a Bo'Bo' wheel arrangement and were designed as reliable mixed-traffic engines for both freight and passenger work on unelectrified lines. Initially numbered 040 DG under an older scheme, they were renumbered BB 66001–BB 66318 from January 1962. Early units were limited to about 105 km/h, later modified or built for 120 km/h operation, and many could work in multiple unit formations. The simple centre-cab design, with an extended front hood housing the diesel engine and generator and a shorter rear hood, made them easy to recognise and maintain. The BB 66000s were widely used across France for decades, handling freight, local passenger trains with steam-heating vans, and yard moves. In later years, several were rebuilt into related classes such as the BB 66600, BB 66700, and BB 69200 with more power or gearing suited to specific duties.
