Herpa Wings McDonnell Douglas KDC-10 Extender USAF 79-0433 (1:500) HA538381
On 26 September 2024, the last two KC-10 Extenders departed Travis Air Force Base, ending a distinguished service history for this essential aerial refuelling and airlift aircraft. Introduced in 1980, the KC-10 has been a vital asset for U.S. and allied forces, capable of carrying twice the fuel of the older KC-135 while transporting nearly as much cargo as the C-17 Globemaster. To honour its retirement, Herpa is releasing a limited-edition three-model series of this iconic trijet. The first model features the insignia of the 60th Air Mobility Wing, the final U.S. Air Force unit to operate the Extender (item no. 538367). Also included is a KC-10 in the original delivery colours of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (item no. 538374). Completing the set is a limited-edition model of the very first KC-10 built for the USAF, serial number 79-0433, presented in its original blue-and-white colour scheme. This aircraft was retired in 2022 and is now displayed at the Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.
