Herpa Wings McDonnell Douglas KDC-10 Extender RNAF T-264 (1:500) HA538374 1:500
On 26 September 2024, the last two KC-10 Extenders departed Travis Air Force Base, marking the end of an era for this vital aerial refuelling and airlift aircraft. Since its introduction in 1980, the KC-10 has been a key asset for U.S. and allied forces, capable of carrying twice the fuel of the older KC-135 while transporting nearly as much cargo as the C-17 Globemaster. To honour its retirement, Herpa is releasing a limited-edition three-model series of this iconic trijet tanker. The first model features the insignia of the 60th Air Mobility Wing, the final U.S. Air Force unit to operate the KC-10 (item no. 538367). The Dutch Air Force, the only foreign operator, deployed two KC-10s from 1995 as part of the 334th Squadron, performing air-to-air refuelling for NATO and engaging in peacekeeping and humanitarian missions worldwide. This special edition model captures the civilian-style livery the aircraft wore when delivered to the Dutch armed forces in 1995.
