Ilyushin IL-76 Ukrainian Air Force 25th 76683 (1:200)

Originally developed as a commercial freighter to transport heavy equipment to remote areas of the Soviet Union lacking infrastructure, the Ilyushin IL-76 has evolved into a versatile platform used extensively in both civilian and military aviation. Since its introduction in 1974, over 970 units have been produced. The IL-76MD variant offers significant improvements over earlier versions, including increased payload capacity, greater fuel volume, and extended range. With structural reinforcements to the airframe, the IL-76MD can carry up to 50 tonnes and hold 117,000 litres of fuel, enabling a maximum range of 4,400 kilometres with a full load. This particular IL-76MD, tail number 76683, entered service with the Soviet Air Force in 1986. It was later used for commercial freight by Veteran Avia and Atlant-Soyuz Airlines before being acquired by the Ukrainian Air Force in 2002. Operated by the 25th Transport Aviation Brigade, it was named in honour of Lt. Colonel Oleksandr Ivanovych Bilyi, who tragically lost his life alongside his crew and paratroopers when their IL-76 was downed near Luhansk Airport in 2014.
