The NSU Sport Prinz is a charming and compact German sports coupé produced by NSU Motorenwerke AG from 1959 to 1967. Designed by Italian stylist Franco Scaglione at Bertone, this elegant two-door coupé debuted at the 1958 Frankfurt Motor Show and brought a touch of Italian flair to German engineering.
Built on the same platform as the NSU Prinz small car, the Sport Prinz featured an air-cooled two-cylinder rear engine and lightweight construction that gave it a lively character despite modest power. Early cars used a 583 cc engine before being enlarged to 598 cc, combining everyday practicality with spirited styling and performance for its era.
Initially, bodies were made by Bertone in Turin, with production later moving to NSU’s own facilities in Heilbronn, Germany. More than 20,800 examples were built during the model’s life, making it a rare but sought-after classic today.
The NSU Sport Prinz’s mix of distinctive design, lightweight agility and period character makes it a favourite subject for scale models and a cherished piece in any collector’s garage or display.
