Alongside the enhanced motor, key components were adapted to handle the increased performance. The trials were a success, leading to the large-scale conversion of almost 500 locomotives into the more powerful Class 112 at the Stendal railway works. One notable example, locomotive 110 831, entered service with the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1975. It was rebuilt in 1988 and later withdrawn by Deutsche Bahn in 1998 as 202 831. Following this, the locomotive underwent further rebuilding at Alstom in Stendal, before joining the fleet of HavellƤndische Eisenbahn in 2008. This locomotive’s story reflects the evolution of German diesel traction from the Deutsche Reichsbahn era through modern private operation, making it a fascinating subject for railway modelling.
