Details
Locomotive 218 406 was built by Friedrich Krupp in Essen and delivered to the Deutsche Bundesbahn in April 1976. Originally allocated to the Kempten depot in the AllgƤu region, it went on to serve at several depots across Germany, including Regensburg, Stendal, Halberstadt, and Ulm, between 1993 and 2018.
In June 2017, while operating near Langenargen on Lake Constance, the locomotive was involved in a serious accident that caused a fire and extensive damage. After repairs and restoration, 218 406 returned to Kempten depot in June 2023, marking a return to its original base after several decades.
Back in service since September 2023, this locomotive represents the enduring legacy of the iconic Class 218 series, which has played a vital role in both regional passenger services and mainline operations across Germany.
