The Panzerhaubitze Hummel was first designed in 1942 to provide mobile artillery support for German armored units. Mounted on a Geschützwagen III/IV chassis, it featured a 15 cm sFH 18 (L/30) howitzer and an open-topped superstructure. Crewed by a driver, radio operator, commander, gunner, and two loaders, the Hummel saw widespread use in armored artillery divisions. By the end of WWII, 713 Hummel guns and 157 ammunition carriers had been built.
