RENFE 591.400 Ferrobus 2 Car DMU IV (DCC-Sound) 1:160 scale model produced by Arnold. Features: DCC Sound Model Best suited to Epoch IV Model Railways Decorated in RENFE company markings Best suited to 192mm radius curves Flywheel Fitted Close Coupler Details The RENFE Class 592 is a class of diesel multiple unit (DMU) trainsets built for Spain’s national railway, RENFE, by Macosa and Ateinsa (now part of Alstom) and introduced into service from 1981. A total of 70 three-car units were constructed for use on Cercanías (suburban) and regional services on non-electrified lines across Spain. Their robust, reliable design emphasised passenger comfort, reliability, frequency, and punctuality on a wide range of service patterns. Each Class 592 unit comprises two powered end cars and a trailer car, running on Iberian gauge (1,668 mm) track with hydraulic transmission and a maximum speed of about 120 km/h. Seating capacity is typically around 200–228 passengers, with Schwerfenberg couplers allowing multiple units to be joined in sets of up to three for higher capacity. In the 2000s, many units were modernised into the 592.2 subseries with improved interiors and performance, and the fleet has also seen use by Comboios de Portugal on Portuguese regional lines under lease. Class 592 units remain a familiar sight on Spanish regional and commuter routes, making them a great prototype for late-20th to early-21st-century Iberian DMU operations on model layouts.
