One of the 16 famous British Tribal Class destroyers, HMS Cossack was an advanced and heavily armed vessel in service by the beginning of the Second World War. It was built for battle and provided the Royal Navy with a significant capability upgrade.
She was famous for her crew boarding the German supply ship Altmark in February 1940, where they rescued more than 300 Allied sailors captured during the pocket battleship Admiral Graf Speeâ's earlier commerce raiding successes.
